UK 5-year action plan for antimicrobial resistance 2024 to 2029

Friday May 10, 2024

This week, the government announced the UK’s second 5-year national action plan setting out their ambitions and actions in support of the 20-year vision for antimicrobial resistance (AMR) https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/uk-5-year-action-plan-for-antimicrobial-resistance-2024-to-2029

The plan reflects the continued importance of finding solutions to this urgent, global issue. The report identifies a number of themes and strategic outcomes – and there are a few points that immediately resonate with the potential within Destiny Pharma’s pipeline:

  1. Infection prevention and control and infection management – While many antibiotics are used as treatments of last resort, there is scope for treatment that is preventative instead, enabling greater control and management of infection.
  2. Optimising the use of antimicrobials – Education and antimicrobial stewardship can play a key role in fighting AMR, so ensuring that patients receive the right treatment at the right time is essential.
  3. Investing in innovation, supply and access – The action plan calls on the life sciences sector to prioritise new approaches and we are pleased to say that we continue our dedication to the development of novel anti-infectives, with a focus on infection prevention.

Destiny Pharma is aligned with the government’s vision and action plan. Our lead candidate, XF-73 Nasal, is being developed for the prevention of post-surgical S. aureus infections and is ready to enter Phase 3 clinical trials. For more detail, visit https://destinypharma.com/pipeline/xf-73-nasal/

We look forward to seeing the ongoing commitment from the government to solve the AMR crisis and are excited to play our part.
